I feel like I'm walking on eggshells

What it usually means

Walking on eggshells means you've started pre-managing someone else's reaction as a full-time job. Sometimes that's an anxious pattern of yours running on a person who hasn't earned it. Sometimes it's an accurate read of someone whose reactions genuinely are unsafe. It matters enormously which one this is.

What it doesn't mean

Don't dismiss it as 'just my anxiety' without checking. And don't diagnose him without checking either.

The one tell

Have you ever brought something up and had it go fine? If yes, this may be your fear. If bringing things up has reliably cost you, that's not fear, that's learning โ€” and it's worth talking to someone outside the relationship about.

If you're managing someone's anger to stay safe, or you're being isolated, monitored, or made to doubt your own memory, that's beyond what an app should be advising on. In the UK: Refuge 0808 2000 247. In the US: 1-800-799-7233. Both are free and confidential.
