The results
Mostly A’s — You said it plainly. Ending it cleanly is rare and it’s a kindness to both of you. It will still hurt. Sad and sure is the right shape — don’t let the sad talk you out of the sure.
Mostly B’s — You faded instead. Fading feels gentler and isn’t. He gets no ending and you get no closure either. One short message, sent once, costs less than four weeks of slow disappearing.
Mostly C’s — You waited to be left. Waiting to be left keeps you inside something you’ve already left. Notice whether you stay because you want to or because leaving feels dangerous.
Mostly D’s — You left to be chased. If you ended it to find out whether he’d fight, you haven’t ended it — you’ve asked a question. Say the actual want out loud, because he won’t read it in an exit.
